A Lawn mowing friend, interested in HFE’s for his 3 Working mowers, wants a demonstration of some type, on how well HFE’s work.
I inherited a 14hp BS Vanguard V-Twin motor, as an extra motor for my old craftsman mower that I dont own anymore.
So I decided to set it up with kill switch, fuel shut off switch, HFE on switch, and amp meter.
First off, the motor starts immediately, hadnt been run in a year. I wire up a control panel, and mount it, Now it wont start. No fuel! Working backwards the pump isnt pumping, the fuel line is plugged, with bad section of hose. Cheap sob that I am, I trim back the end, slowly till I have good hose. Put the line on pump, still no gas, oh, wait I had to lift the tank up level with pump the first time to prime it, did that, and it shot fuel 4 ft right at me! got me in the beard! 20 mins later after clean up, connect up the carb. No fuel! pull the fuel shut off, its fried. So I pull the shut off pin out, put it back. now I have a running engine again with panel. But now I have to measure fuel in the tank, or container.
For testing I will run 1 cup of gasoline as a base line time. Probably do it 3-4 times to get a running range for full throttle running.
Then with the HFE on, the same test with 1 cup of gasoline.
If what I’ve read is accurate, since this engine is 480cc, I should see an increase in the 60+% increase range with my 1.2L/m unit. I might make the same test with catalyst set to draw 5a & 10a instead of the full 15a incase his mowers have smaller alternators than this unit.
Stay tuned for results, I’ll try to do them this weekend.

I have been running my B&S 18.5HP Garden Tractor on HHO for 5 months, found that at 8amps the mower liked it, more power smoother run and exhaust was cleaned up, i use to get 2.5 mowings on a tank of gas (big yard) and with HHO added i get 7 mowings on a tank, about 60% increase, thats all i needed to see. I use HHO every time,I did have to get a larger battery to handle the demand.
Tom,
how about some more details? pics maybe, cell type, catalyst, etc. We’d love to see the cell in use, email me pics and details and I’ll put it in the HFE Cells in Use page
