Container Materials

I’ve noticed there are some clear plastic HFE containers on youtube and other sites, so I checked on some and the cost & availability. I found one aquarium supply house that has most of the supplies that can be used, tubing, check valves, connectors, glue, etc. Aquatic Eco-Systems

I have no affiliation with Aquatic Eco-Systems other than finding them while googling plastic tubing.

Then a heat related thought occurred, some of the HFE’s builders are talking of 140-180 degree operating temps, what are the specs on different plastics? Here’s what I found, so build according to your expected heat requirements, and if it fails, you can now find what will contain the heat.

Material | Max Operating Temp (°F / °C)
PVC | 140/60
CPVC | 200/93
acrylic | 150/66
LDPE Plastic | 180/82
HDPE Plastic | 180/82
UHMW Plastic | 180/82
Nylon 101 | 210/99
Nylon MC® 901 | 260/127
Nylon MC® 907| 200/93
Polycarbonate Unfilled | 250/121
Polycarbonate 30% Glass | 270/132
Polycarbonate Lexan® | 240/116
